| David and I took a late summer holiday to Sardinia, with some welcome sunshine and warmth. David wasn't very lucky with the wind - either it was blowing a gale or dead calm, so didn't get too much kiting done (and when he did, the wind was in the wrong direction!). So we headed off in the hirecar down the coast and explored many nooks and crannies of the North-West - sampling delicious gelati (handmade italian ice cream), and pasta and seafood and pizzas... for scientific purposes, of course! The island-studded coast was wild but beautiful, with hundreds of idyllic little turquoise bays, with small golden beaches surrounded by elaborate rock formations. An archaeological visit took us to a couple of Giants Tombs - ancient burial chambers with carved entrances and hundreds of friendly lizards! We also went down to the Costa Smeralda.. playground of the rich and famous, and up to Santa Theresa (with fine views of Corsica) and Capo Testa, with its amazing (very sharp!) rocks. |
