| We left Porto Pollo after 5 days, and headed over to Alghero via a few scenic stops. Grotto dei Nettuno was a stunning sight, 642 steps down a sheer limestone cliff to an underground cave system with sea-fed lakes. The climb back up was a killer but the view from the top of the cliffs was amazing. We found an amazing restaurant in Alghero called Les Arenas, with delicous seafood and metre-long pizzas. On our last day, we headed down the coast to Bosa on the scenic route past steep cliffs overlooking clear aquamarine water, stopping for a walk on a limestone platform studded with rockpools. After a quick lunch and (another!) gelati, we headed back up via the inland road to Villanueva and the amazing cliff-top town of Monte******, whose approach road was an almost sheer zig-zag climb up 400+ metres, and sported a panoramic gravel track around the crest with amazing views over the manmade lake and surrounding bluffs. Back in Alghero for our last night, we headed into the old town for a quick walk to soak up the medieval atmosphere and architecture. |
